Customers always talk to the published version of an agent. Everything you change on the agent page, from instructions to connected numbers, is saved as a draft first, so you can review the exact differences and decide which conversations get the update. Every publish and rollback is kept in the version history.

How drafts and versions work

  • Editing anything shows the Unsaved draft changes bar with Save & review and Discard. Discard returns the page to the last saved state.
  • Save & review saves the changes as a draft (you see Draft saved, for example “Draft v4 is ready for publish review”) and opens the publish dialog. There is one draft per agent; saving again updates it.
  • The first time you save an agent that has no versions yet, Popcorn also records the agent as it was before your edits as a published version with the note Initial published version, so you always have something to roll back to.
  • Until you publish, the published version keeps answering customers. The page header tells you where you are: “You have unpublished edits”, “A saved update is ready”, or “Customers are using the published assistant”.
  • Publishing needs a role that can edit agents.

Try the agent in Test Agent

1

Open the test window

On the agent page, click Test Agent in the header. A chat window opens with the name, avatar, welcome message and suggested questions of your website chat.
2

Chat as a customer

Type a message and press Enter. The agent answers one message at a time; while it is replying you see “Please wait for the current response” if you send another.
3

Start over when needed

The reset icon asks Reset conversation history?; click Reset to start a fresh conversation. The globe icon (Widget URL) opens the same chat in a new tab.
Test Agent talks to the published version, exactly like your customers. Edits you have saved but not published are not reflected. To try a change, publish it, then reset the test conversation so the next message starts on the new version. (A brand-new agent has no published version until its first save on the agent page; until then Test Agent uses the settings it was created with.) Test conversations are real conversations: they appear in your Inbox and each AI reply uses one credit like any other.

Try the agent on WhatsApp with the sandbox

The sandbox is a shared Popcorn test number, useful before you connect your own WhatsApp number. It is answered by your workspace’s default agent.
1

Open the sandbox

In the Channels section of the agent page, click Manage Sandbox. The WhatsApp Sandbox dialog shows a QR code and your registered test numbers.
2

Register your phone

Click Add Sandbox Number, enter your WhatsApp number and confirm with Add Sandbox Number. The number is listed as inactive until it sends its first message.
3

Scan and chat

Scan the QR code with your phone and send the pre-filled message. The default agent replies on WhatsApp; the conversation appears in your Inbox and uses credits like a live conversation. Remove a number with the X next to it, and close the dialog with Save.
A registered number shows as active once it has sent its first message; numbers registered at sign-up are active straight away. If your number is not registered, the sandbox replies that it is not linked to any workspace. If the workspace has no default agent, it replies that no default agent is set up yet; choose one from Agents → Agents with Set as default.

Publish changes

1

Save and open the review

Click Save & review (or Publish changes in the header when a draft already exists). The Publish changes dialog opens.
2

Check what changed

What changed lists the areas that differ from the published version: assistant profile and reply instructions, messaging and automation settings, enabled skills, tools or knowledge, and connected customer channels. Open Show exact before and after to compare Current assistant with This update field by field.
3

Choose who gets the update

Under Who gets this update?, the default is New customer chats only. Open Change chat options to include chats that are already running (see the table below).
4

Add a note and publish

Optionally write an Internal note; it only appears in the version history. Click Publish changes. You see Changes published together with how many open chats were updated.

What the publish options mean

Two more things happen at publish time:
  • Numbers you disconnected move their active conversations to the default agent immediately, whatever you chose above. The dialog warns you by number.
  • Any other draft of this agent is archived, so only the version you just published can be rolled back to.

Version history

Click Versions in the agent header to open Version history. Each entry shows the version number, a status of Published, Draft or Archived, the publish or update date, the note you wrote (or No release note.), and five figures (0 for a version that has not handled conversations yet): The live version is marked Current live; archived versions have a Roll back button.

Roll back to an earlier version

1

Pick the version

In Version history, click Roll back next to the version you want. The Roll back to vN dialog opens.
2

Review what it restores

What this rollback restores compares Current assistant with After rollback for every area that differs.
3

Give a reason

The Rollback reason is required and is written to the audit trail.
4

Choose the conversation impact

By default existing conversations stay on their current version. Tick Apply to active AI conversations to switch open AI conversations from their next reply, and Include human-owned threads to extend that to conversations a teammate has taken over.
5

Confirm

Click Roll back. You see Rolled back to vN.
A rollback does not reuse the old version number: Popcorn creates a new published version with the old version’s contents and your reason as its note, archives the version that was live, and discards any unpublished draft.
