Campaigns send an approved WhatsApp template to a list of your customers in one go: a sale announcement, a restock, a seasonal offer. Automated campaigns do the same thing one customer at a time, triggered by an event in your store such as an abandoned cart. Both live under Mass Marketing in the sidebar. This page explains the pieces that every campaign depends on. For the step-by-step wizard, see Send a campaign.

Before you start

  • A connected WhatsApp Business number. Without one, Mass Marketing shows No WhatsApp Business Account and sends you to connect WhatsApp.
  • At least one template with status Approved for the number you want to send from. See Templates.
  • Credits. Popcorn reserves credits when you launch (see below). See Plans and credits.

Campaigns vs automated campaigns

Templates and Meta approval

WhatsApp only lets a business start a conversation with a pre-approved message, so every campaign is built on a template. You write the template in Mass Marketing → Templates, submit it, and Meta reviews it. Only templates with status Approved appear in the campaign wizard. Two things to know early:
  • Templates are tied to a specific WhatsApp Business number. If you have several numbers, a template created for one is not available when sending from another.
  • Meta may change a template’s category during review (for example from Utility to Marketing). Popcorn shows a Reclassified badge when that happens. Category affects what WhatsApp charges you and how the message is delivered.
Details, limits, and statuses are on the Templates page.

Credits and the cost estimate

Campaign messages are paid for with Popcorn credits, separately from what Meta charges for WhatsApp conversations.
  • Rate. 1 credit per 10 campaign messages. Automated campaigns cost 1 credit per 5 messages.
  • Estimate. On the Audience step, the Popcorn AI credits required panel shows Messages (the matching contacts), Credits Needed, and Credits Available. If the balance is too low it reads Insufficient credits to send this campaign. Please top up your account.
  • Reservation. When you click Send Campaign or Schedule Campaign, Popcorn counts the audience again on the server and reserves the credits for it. If your balance is too low the launch fails with a message telling you how many credits you need, and nothing is sent.
  • Refund of unused credits. When the campaign completes or you stop it, credits for messages that were never sent are returned to your balance. The campaign page shows Credits Consumed based on delivered messages.
Reserved and consumed credits both appear under Billing → Credit Usage. See Credit usage.

Who receives a campaign

Three things decide whether a contact is in your audience:
  1. Your filters. Every new campaign starts with one filter, Subscribed is Yes. You can add more (last seen, tags, order history, previous campaign recipients, and so on). The full list is on Send a campaign.
  2. A phone number. Contacts without a phone number are never messaged.
  3. Reachability. For templates in the Marketing category, Popcorn automatically leaves out contacts that WhatsApp has repeatedly failed to reach. Their profile in Customers shows Campaigns suppressed, and you can put them back with Re-enable campaigns. The audience preview and the credit estimate already exclude them, so what you see is what will be sent. See Delivery and reachability.
Unsubscribing works through the agent: when a customer asks to stop receiving messages, the Unsubscribe capability marks the contact as not subscribed, and the default Subscribed filter leaves them out. See Customers.

Working hours

If Restrict to working hours is on under Settings → General → Working Hours, a campaign launched outside Working Hours Start to Working Hours End waits and starts at the next Working Hours Start. The hours are read in your workspace time zone, which is the Timezone under Settings → Profile. When the setting is off, campaigns are sent at any time. Working hours apply to campaigns only; automated campaigns send as soon as their event fires. See Workspace settings.

Daily sending limits

Meta sets a per-day limit for your WhatsApp Business account, shown next to each number in the wizard (for example 1K/day). If your audience is larger than the limit, the Send step warns you that the campaign will be processed over several days. Popcorn paces sending to stay inside the limit; you do not need to split the campaign yourself. Limits and how to raise them are covered in Delivery and reachability.

Where to see results

Mass Marketing → Campaigns lists every campaign with Name, Status, Recipients, Delivered, Delivery rate, Read rate, and Created, with tabs for All, Active, Scheduled, Paused, Stopped, Completed, and Draft. Open a campaign to see Recipients, Sent, Delivered, Read, Clicks, Credits Consumed, Couldn’t deliver, and Retrying, plus a per-recipient table. Click Couldn’t deliver to open Why some messages didn’t deliver, which groups failures by cause and lets you export the affected contacts. Details are on Send a campaign. Replies to a campaign arrive in the Inbox like any other conversation. If you left AI agent follow-up on when sending, the AI agent answers them. See Inbox overview.
