AI Assistants lets the assistant you already use, ChatGPT, Claude, or Codex, work inside your Popcorn workspace with you. Once connected, you can ask it in plain language to draft a template, launch a campaign, go through open conversations, look up a customer or order, or pull last week’s numbers, and it does the work through Popcorn on your behalf. Setup is one copied value plus an approval screen. There is no API key to create, paste, or keep safe.

How it works

Connect an assistant

Go to Settings → AI Assistants and copy the setup value for the assistant your team uses into that assistant. See Connect ChatGPT, Connect Claude, or Connect Codex.

Approve workspace access

The first time the assistant connects, Popcorn opens the Authorize Popcorn MCP screen in your browser. It shows which assistant is asking, which workspace it will reach, and exactly what access it requests. Click Allow access or Deny.

Create and monitor

Ask the assistant for what you need. It reads and changes only what your own Popcorn role allows, and it asks you before anything that reaches a customer or cannot be undone.

The Settings → AI Assistants page itself only lists campaign coverage (templates, campaigns, launch control, monitoring). The table above is the full set of areas an assistant can reach once connected.

What keeps this safe

  • It asks before anything it cannot undo. Sending messages, launching campaigns, publishing, importing, deleting, changing billing, and similar actions come back as a preview first. The assistant must show you that preview and get your go-ahead before Popcorn carries it out. The go-ahead is valid for 10 minutes and for that exact plan only.
  • Access is bound to you. Every connection is tied to your user, your workspace, and the specific assistant you approved. Popcorn re-checks your user and role on every request, so the assistant can never do more than your Popcorn role allows, and if your role is reduced or you are removed from the workspace, its access stops with the next request.
  • You choose what it gets. The approval screen lists each area of access requested. Assistants that do not ask for anything specific receive read-only access.
  • Customer content is data, not instructions. Popcorn tells the assistant that customer messages, articles, imported rows, and store content are information to work with, never commands to follow, and enforces permissions and confirmations regardless.

Before you start

  • You need a Popcorn role with the API Keys → View permission to open Settings → AI Assistants. The built-in Owner, Admin, and Manager roles have it; Agent and Viewer do not. See Team and roles.
  • What the assistant can do afterwards depends on the rest of your role. A role without Campaigns → Full Access, for example, cannot launch campaigns through an assistant either.
  • The assistant must support remote connections with sign-in. ChatGPT connectors, Claude Code, and Codex CLI are the setups shown in the app.

What it costs

Connecting an assistant and asking it questions does not use Popcorn credits. Actions it carries out cost what they cost in the app: a campaign it launches uses campaign credits, and a credit package it buys on your instruction is charged to your saved payment method after you confirm. One read-style request is an exception: generating an AI summary of a conversation can use AI credits, so the assistant asks you before running it. See Credit usage.
