Automated campaigns are in beta. The page is labelled Automated Campaigns (BETA) in the app.
Before you start
- A connected Shopify, Salla or Zid store. The wizard only offers platforms that are connected under Integrations; see Connect your store.
- A connected WhatsApp number, and a template with status Approved that belongs to that number. See Templates.
- Credits. Automated campaigns cost 1 Credit per 5 Messages. A message is not sent when your balance is empty; see Credits and failed messages.
Create an automated campaign
Go to Mass Marketing → Automated Campaigns and click Create Campaign. Enter a Campaign Name at the top of the wizard (if you leave it empty, Popcorn names the campaign with the date and time), then work through the six steps with Next and Back.1
Select Trigger
Choose the platform, then the event that should trigger the campaign. If nothing is listed, click Set Up Integrations and connect a store first. The events available for each platform are listed below.
2
Message Design
Choose the WhatsApp number under Select Phone Number, then pick a template. Templates are tied to a number, so only templates for that number are shown, with status Approved or Pending; use an Approved one. Changing the number resets the selection. Click Create New Template if you do not have one yet.
3
Dynamic Content
Map every variable in the template to a field from the event (customer name, order number, total, cart link, and so on) or choose Custom Value to use the same fixed text for every message. You cannot continue until all variables are mapped. If the template has a link button, the Link preview shows what the button will open. The wizard blocks you when the mapping would produce a broken link, for example a full checkout URL placed after a domain that is already in the button.
4
Webhook Filters
Filters are optional. Without them the campaign sends a message every time the event fires. Click Add Filter and choose a Field, an Operator and a Value. Operators: equals, does not equal, contains, is greater than, is less than, is empty, is not empty. When you add several filters, all of them must match or the event is ignored.
5
Campaign Setup
- Who should receive these messages? — Concerned Customers: the customer directly involved in the event (the person who placed the order or owns the cart). This is the only option available today.
- Send to unsubscribed customers — off by default. Turn it on only for essential messages such as order confirmations or shipping updates; with it off, customers who have unsubscribed are skipped.
- Autopilot Mode — Enabled lets the AI agent answer customers who reply to the message. Disabled hands replies over to your team.
- Message Delivery Timing — Send immediately, or Send after a delay with a Delay Duration and Unit (minutes, hours, days, weeks or months). The delay can be at most one year.
6
Review & Launch
Check the trigger, template, variables, filters and recipients. The Campaign Pricing card shows 1 Credit per 5 Messages. Click Launch Campaign. The campaign becomes Active and starts listening for events straight away.

What happens when an event fires
- Popcorn checks your filters. If they do not match, nothing is sent and no credit is used.
- The recipient’s phone number is taken from the event. If the event carries no valid phone number, the event is skipped. If the number is not in Customers yet, a customer record is created.
- The message is sent immediately, or queued as a scheduled message when you set a delay. Scheduled messages appear in the Scheduled Messages count on the campaign page.
- Right before sending, Popcorn checks that the phone number is valid, that the customer is subscribed (unless Send to unsubscribed customers is on), that the customer is reachable (marketing templates only; see unreachable contacts), and that you have credits.
- The message is sent and a conversation is opened in the Inbox. With Autopilot Mode enabled, the AI agent handles the reply.
Abandoned-cart messages are skipped after a purchase
For delayed campaigns triggered by a cart or checkout event, Popcorn asks your store right before sending whether the customer has placed an order since the cart was abandoned. If they have, the recovery message is not sent. If the store cannot answer in time, the message is sent anyway rather than dropped. Immediate sends are not checked. Campaigns triggered by completion events such as Zid’s Abandoned Cart Completed are never suppressed.Pause, resume and status
Open a campaign and click Pause Campaign to stop it, or Activate Campaign to resume.
Results and why messages were not sent
The Automated Campaigns list shows Total Campaigns, Active, Messages Sent and Success Rate, plus triggers, messages and success rate per campaign. A Delayed badge marks campaigns that send after a delay. Open a campaign to see Events Triggered, Sent, Delivered, Read, Clicks (each with its rate), Scheduled Messages, Couldn’t deliver and Credits Consumed, followed by Campaign Details, Template Preview with the variable mappings, and Webhook Filters. What each status means is explained in Delivery and reachability. Click Couldn’t deliver to open Why some messages didn’t deliver. Besides the WhatsApp failure categories, automated campaigns have two reasons where the message never left Popcorn:
Use View Failed Contacts and Export CSV to get the affected phone numbers.
Credits
- Automated campaigns are charged 1 Credit per 5 Messages, deducted after each successful send. Failed sends are not charged.
- There is no reservation at launch. Each message checks your balance right before it goes out, so keep the balance topped up during busy periods (see Top-ups and renewal).
- Automatic retries of a message that hit a temporary WhatsApp error reuse the original charge; they are never billed twice.
