The Profile tab controls how your business appears to customers on WhatsApp: the display name next to your messages, the profile photo, and the details shown when a customer opens your business info. Changes are sent to Meta and apply to the number you are editing.

Before you start

  • At least one connected WhatsApp number. See Connect a WhatsApp number.
  • For a display name change: access to Meta’s WhatsApp Manager. Meta requires display-name changes to be submitted there, not in Popcorn.

Open the profile

Go to Channels → WhatsApp → Profile. The tab opens on your default number. Under Business Number, choose the number whose profile you want to edit; each number has its own profile.

Display name

The WhatsApp display name card shows the name Meta has approved for this number and its status. Changing the name is a two-part process: you submit the new name in Meta, and Popcorn activates it on the number once Meta approves it.

Submit the new name in Meta

Click Change in Meta. This opens the phone numbers page of your WhatsApp Business account in WhatsApp Manager. Submit the new display name there.

Let Popcorn follow the review

Back on the Profile tab, the card shows the Requested name and the status Pending review. While the tab is open, Popcorn re-reads the status from Meta every 15 seconds; Meta also notifies Popcorn when it decides, so you do not need to keep the tab open.

Activation

When Meta approves the name, Popcorn activates it on the number automatically using the two-step verification PIN it stored when you connected the number. If the status still shows Approved or Ready, click Activate approved name. The status becomes Activating, then Active, and the card confirms The approved display name is active on this number.
Activation can fail in these cases:
  • This number is connected through the WhatsApp Business app. Coexistence numbers are activated from Meta or from the WhatsApp Business app, not from Popcorn. See Use Popcorn with the WhatsApp Business app.
  • Reconnect this WhatsApp number so Popcorn can securely activate the approved display name. The number was connected before Popcorn started storing the verification PIN. Connect it again with Login with Facebook on the Account tab, then activate.
  • Meta has not approved this display-name change yet. Wait for the review to finish.
  • The approved display name is already being activated. An activation is already running; wait a moment and reload the page.
  • Any other failure shows Meta’s own message under Could not activate the display name. Fix the cause in WhatsApp Manager and click Activate approved name again.

Profile Information

  • Profile Photo: click Choose file (or Change if a photo exists) and pick a JPEG or PNG image.
  • WhatsApp Number Identifier: a short label such as Sales or Support. It is shown in your Inbox conversations instead of the full phone number, so your team can tell numbers apart. Customers never see it.
  • Category: the business type Meta shows on your profile. The options are Apparel, Auto, Beauty, Education, Entertainment, Event Planning, Finance, Government, Grocery, Health, Hotel, Non-Profit, Professional Services, Restaurant, Retail, Travel, and Other.
  • Description: the text customers read about your business.

Contact Information

Fill in Address, Email, and Website. Popcorn stores one website per number.

Check the preview and save

The Preview panel on the right shows the profile as WhatsApp lays it out. When you are done, click Save changes in the bar at the bottom, or Discard to drop your edits.
Popcorn confirms with Profile updated successfully. Everything except the WhatsApp Number Identifier is sent to Meta and appears in your WhatsApp business profile; the identifier stays inside Popcorn. Saving only the identifier does not contact Meta.
The display name is not edited here. The Name shown in the preview is the name Meta has verified for the number; change it through Change in Meta as described above.

Troubleshooting

  • Error updating profile: Meta rejected the update. Check that the photo is a JPEG or PNG, then save again. If the notification includes a reason from Meta, fix that first.
  • The profile does not load for a number: Popcorn reads the profile from Meta each time you open the tab or switch numbers. If the read fails, the fields stay empty or Popcorn shows Error updating profile with the cause; reload the page. If it keeps failing, connect the number again from the Account tab so Popcorn refreshes its access.
