Before you start
- A Popcorn role with API keys view access, so you can open Settings → AI assistants. Owner, Admin and Manager have it.
- A ChatGPT account that can add apps. Where that option lives is ChatGPT’s own interface and changes over time. The ChatGPT card says: “If your ChatGPT account has developer mode, add this server URL in the app settings and choose OAuth.”
- A Popcorn account with a phone number that has finished setup. If it has not, Popcorn takes you through that first and then returns you to the approval screen.
- If you belong to more than one workspace, switch to the one you want first. The connection belongs to the workspace you approve it in.

Copy the server URL
In Popcorn, go to Settings → AI assistants. Under Connect an assistant, find the ChatGPT card (labelled Developer setup) and click Copy server URL. The value is:If the card shows a ChatGPT app label and a Connect in ChatGPT button instead, click it: it opens Popcorn AI in ChatGPT. Select Connect, sign in to your Popcorn AI account, review the access it asks for, and skip to the last step.

Add the server in ChatGPT
Click Open ChatGPT, or open ChatGPT yourself. In the app settings add a new server, paste the URL as its address and choose OAuth. ChatGPT discovers Popcorn’s sign-in requirements from the URL; there is no token or key to enter.

Approve access in your browser
When ChatGPT connects, Popcorn opens “Connect assistant to Popcorn AI” (“This will let assistant do the following in workspace.”). If you are not signed in, you are sent to sign in first and then brought back.The screen shows the App, the Workspace (with your email), when the Request expires, the Connection address and Requested access, with one line per area such as “Inbox: Read”. Check that the workspace is the one you intend, then click Allow access. You are returned to ChatGPT.

Try a request
Ask ChatGPT something read-only first, for example “Give me an overview of my Popcorn workspace” or “Which campaigns ran this month and how did they deliver?”
The approval request is valid for 10 minutes. For ChatGPT, a request that lapsed while you were signing in or finishing account setup is renewed when you come back, for up to 24 hours after the connection started. If the page says Authorization request was not found., start the connection again from ChatGPT.
What the approval screen means
- Requested access lists each area ChatGPT asked for, in the form “Inbox: Read”, with a short description such as “Send Inbox content to customers after you confirm the action.” and the access code beside it. Anything described as “after you confirm the action” means ChatGPT must show you a preview and get your go-ahead each time before Popcorn carries it out.
- ChatGPT asks for every area at once. Popcorn grants only what your role allows, and the screen lists exactly that. An Agent sees fewer lines than a Manager. If your role allows none of them, approval is refused.
- Deny cancels the request. Nothing is connected.
- Manage connected assistants opens Settings → AI assistants in a new tab. That page holds setup only; to see or end connections, ask the assistant. See Permissions and safety.
What is different in ChatGPT
- ChatGPT does not offer billing. It cannot read your plan, credits or invoices, buy credits or pay an invoice; use Plan and billing in Popcorn for those.
- ChatGPT has one extra tool, Open Popcorn workspace. It shows a card with your workspace and shortcuts for insights, customer support, campaigns, agents, knowledge and commerce, limited to what your role can use. It sends and changes nothing.
- Everything else, including how confirmations work, matches the other assistants.
